Camp Food: Snakes On A Stick

Snakes on a Stick

Snakes on a Stick

Finally! I am getting my first camping post up!

My intent was to do these on Mondays but Sunday and Monday I was under the weather and just could not get myself to feel at all creative and I figured it would be better to just wait a day or two…till the, ummm, weather blew over…

So I am feeling much better, although still not quite 100%, but MUCH better.

Ok so…WHO LOVES CAMPING?!!!!

I do!

We haven’t gone yet this year because Montana is still COLD. Montana thinks it is spring, not summer, despite my attempts at convincing….It’s been raining non-stop for like 2 weeks.

Miserable.

Until today! The sun is currently shining just in time to talk about camping.

So Snakes On A Stick are a fun little treat I had never had until last summer. I don’t know when or where my mom came up with these little creations but they are so fun!

Now I don’t typically condone buying canned biscuits. In fact I would still really like to try making these with actual biscuit dough, perhaps if it was a tad thicker than normal it would work…if anyone has tried it please leave a comment below and tell us about it! We haven’t been able to try it yet since we have had so much rain, but as soon as I can we will try making these with the real thing and I will post an update.

I am sure many of you won’t mind though and will in fact rejoice at how easy and fun these are.

My brother-in-law, Justin, very kindly allowed me to photograph him making these last summer when were all camping so you can have a visual, although these are very easy to make.

First you roll the biscuit into...well...a snake!

Then you wrap the snake around a dowel or stick, make sure the bottom is sealed so your delicious filling doesn't come out!

Until it's all rolled on...

Until it’s all rolled on…

Then you roast!

Then you roast!

...and then you stuff

…and then you stuff (that’s my little sister Emma putting strawberry freezer jam in hers – my mom makes the BEST strawberry freezer jam!).

After that you get to devour your creation.

These are great for slow, easy going mornings around the campfire, when you just want to chill and eat and drink coffee. We play pretty hard when we are camping so there usually ends up being a morning or two like that 🙂
