Homemade Chai Tea
Recipe By:
Recipe type: Drink

Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 or 4 cardamom pods or ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 14 whole cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ginger
  • 3 black peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons black tea
  • ¼ cup honey (a little less if you prefer it not so sweet)
Preparation Instructions
  1. Bring the water to a boil and add the spices.
  2. Once boiling remove from heat and allow to steep about 30 minutes.
  3. Then add the tea and allow to steep another 10 minutes.
  4. Add the honey and stir until it is dissolved.
  5. Next strain the solids out by pouring the mixture through a mesh sieve (I like mine super strong so I leave everything except the tea in the concentrate). At this point you can put it in a storage container and put it in the fridge until you want some or you can go ahead and add some milk.
  6. To serve fill mug or glass (depending on if you want it hot or cold) halfway with the chai and the rest of the way with milk.
  7. If you are having it hot, you can reheat it on the stove or in the microwave or if you have a frother then you can steam it until hot and foamy.
  8. If you are having it cold, add some ice and enjoy!
